Crime analyst warns Police Minister over ‘Friday arrests’ -

Criminologist and crime analyst, Thabang Bogopa, has expressed concern over what he described as the growing trend of police arresting suspects on a Friday and keeping them in custody throughout the weekend before their first court appearance.

Speaking at a security summit in Johannesburg, Bogopa told Police Minister Prof Firoz Cachalia that the practice raises serious legal and constitutional concerns.

He warned that detaining suspects over a weekend without sufficient justification could expose the South African Police Service and the state to civil claims worth millions of rands for unlawful arrest and detention.

Bogopa said the issue requires urgent attention, arguing that while police must act decisively He urged the minister to address the matter to prevent unnecessary litigation.

The National Prosecuting Authority has submitted an application for the forfeiture of Rudolph Mazibuko's assets, valued at over 50 million, following the successful freezing of said assets.

The SIU tied his direct syndicate to approximately R283 million in irregular transactions.

All seven of his vehicles have been seized. Mazibuko has also not submitted opposing documents to the forfeiture application, and the NPA has requested a hearing date.

Should the NPA's application be successful, Mazibuko and his son, who are also implicated, stand to forfeit all frozen assets, including their multi-million rand residence located on Eccleston Drive, a prestigious street in Bryanston.

Attempts to get comment from his lawyer Rudolph Baloyi have been unsuccessful.

A waitress at The Cosmopolitan Lounge in Maboneng; Johannesburg is seeking assistance with locating Pamela Anderson.

Pamela Anderson visited the establishment and racked up a bill of R5940, and when it was time to settle the bill the overworked waitress charged Pamela Anderson R594 on speed point instead of R5940.

The now distressed and soon to be out of work waitress has been appealing to Pamela Anderson to settle the balance or at least make arrangements with management so she can at least keep her job.

Pamela Anderson is ignoring all contacts by said waitress.
