This week we had the sheep shorn which reduces incidences of external parasite attacks as well as keeping the sheep cool through the ambit summer days.
Last autumn we planted some herbal leys, they are now showing all their glory and are in flower. These areas have around 20 species in ranging from lots of clovers and legumes, traditional grasses and wild forage flowers like selfheal, sheep’s parsley and salad burnet.
for this grazing season we plan to use fencing to control the area the cattle have access to aiming for 1-2 day moves and full utilisation, this will allow long rest periods ensunring full plant recovery
We have been busy grouping the cattle for turn-out with the appropriate bull. This depends on genetics, I also look at the size of the animal to ensure an easy birth and moving our genetics forwards to produce a low maintenance animal that will grow exceptionally off grass/forage
on genetics we purchesed a new bull from the @BlackbrookLong1 herd, he is blackbrook eclipse as seen in the last hpoto and he is a very good looking bull indeed.
Well we are now up to 7 calves so far, 4 of which are from our heifers (first time calvers) who were today showing just how good there maternal abilities are mothering the calf while it’s getting a full stomach of milk. #Longhorns#grassbased
well yesterday marked the start of calving with a maiden heifer, she calved a beautiful heifer calf and this afternoon followed with a bull calf. both calves happy and well. #longhorns#claving2021#naturalcalving@LonghornOffice
We’ve got @kingwellholding clearing some dense scrub area creating a track to allow access for eventually grazing the area amongst the remaining scrub with cattle allowing regeneration of the area. #regenag#scrubgrazing#cattle#Longhorns
This comes with our now permenant residence within the @CornburyPark estate, alongside a change in management system producing not only high quality pedigree genetics but also high quality beef hogget and pork from forage based and regenerative and sustainable systems. #Longhorns
Today we offically announce our change in name from 'Pointer Pedigrees' to 'Cornbury House Farm', forming the 'Cornbury House Herd' of Pedigree Longhorns @LonghornOffice#Longhorns#Cattle#Sheep#Pigs
