A lawyer sells services. Every time a lawyer opens their mouth or commits pen to paper to render advice, they draw from a well of years of rigorous study, practice, research, and investment.
Your service is the equivalent of the cars displayed at a car dealer's showroom. It is the meal a food vendor serves at a canteen. It is the designer outfit displayed in a reputable boutique.
If you would not walk into any of these places and take those things for free, no one should expect to receive your professional services without paying for them.
It is your duty to show people how you, as a professional, should be treated.
The right approach is to teach them to pay, or furnish other valuable consideration, before relevant professional counsel is given.
If it is valuable or it cost you a sweat to learn, they believe that you won't throw it about for free.
Get used to charging a consultation fee and raise it as your wealth of knowledge and eminence grow in practice.
It will also help keep some people away.
