These are tournament debutants that many expected to finish last in their group. They got out of it unbeaten, gave Argentina a big scare and lost 0 games in 90 minutes.
Yet, they are not flattered about losing to the defending champs. That mentality showed on the pitch. Love it.
Ghana are out of the World Cup. In truth getting to the Round of 32 was a great success given what a mess this team has been of the last seven or so years. But the lack of any kind of competitiveness will sting for sure.
A lot of work to be done to make this team one that the nation can be proud of. I'm not sure the GFA are up to it.
Haaland aside, pretty much all the Manchester City forwards have been duds at this World Cup. Marmoush, Semenyo, Doku... If anyone had told you beforehand that, with the way he ended the league campaign, Jeremy Doku would be in genuine danger of losing his starting spot with Belgium, you would have thought they were yanking your chain. Yet, here we are.
To be clear, that was a 1-0 thrashing. On the balance of play, an argument to be made that Colombia v Ghana was the most one-sided R32 clash. (Spain v Austria perhaps edges it out, but yeah.) Colombia were the favourites, but that was a limp, deeply disappointing effort by the Black Stars. Unflattering comparison with Cape Verde's heroics against Argentina impossible to avoid.
Where do Ghana go from here, specifically with respect to Carlos Queiroz?
