This is one of the rarest machines in my collection, a CADO CAT made by CADOSYSTEMS in Torrance CA in the 1980’s. It supported 4 simultaneous users on an 8 bit 8085A processor and 16KB (not MB or GB, 16 Kilobytes) of RAM using a proprietary operating system. If you have ever seen or worked on a CADOSYSTEMS machine, please drop a comment!
@tommithetechie I had a similar true experience when 3.5" disks first came out. I carried a recovery boot disk in the front pocket of my dress shirt - not thinking about the fact that I also carried a magnetic pocket screwdriver. Needless to say, that disk failed to recover when I needed it.
@esrtweet@tekwendell As you might guess from my handle I go back far enough to have built my first computer from bare chips and wires. I appreciate everyone whos passion followed in that same route.
@sherrod_im I go just a little further back, fitting my handset into the 110 baud acoustic coupled modem and hearing the satisfying clatter of "LOGIN:" print one letter at a time on my Teletype. Hail the operators of all ages!
@MuseumCommodore First language I learned. On a GE/Honeywell mainframe tied in via a Teletype 33 at 110 baud. Had a shoebox full of rolls of paper tape.
@deaflibertarian I have gained insight from your posts on a variety of topics, especially on deafness but many others too. You have certainly earned my respect.
@jumpinjonnydee I have one. It was only *after* fully understanding how binary logic and math actually worked that I was able to truy appreciate how ingenious this mechanical representation really is.
