Is this how the establishment plans to solve the country's problems? By abducting a lawyer who has put his life on the line numerous times to give a voice to the marginalized? Shame on them

First, not only do UCI,SB,SD have higher median rents than LA, they also have higher % increases than UCB, SF, LA (dist. b/w blue and orange). Second, clearly we’re all being shortchanged:8/10 campuses will still be rent burdened; 5 are more rent burdened than they were in 2018.
This is a great example of how bad statistics can lead to poor decision making. This speaks survivorship bias to me:
a short 🧵on just another reason why I'm voting no.
@resist_uci Good question. The data linked in the thread shows that workers at the four campuses that get the additional $2,500 are those who have the highest rents. This is in part because they have a lot less access to campus housing than other campuses, including UCSB.
Why has BT chosen to use this survey, as opposed to one of many rent data conglomerates (HUD, Zillow etc) to decide which campuses are excluded from the high base-wage category? As an eg, I take here HUD median rents (yes, ik they’re underestimates) for each of the campus loc.
@umarsaif Just you. The image on the right shows tiny variations in the temperature of the cosmic microwave bkgrnd which are drawn from a random distribution. Humans are very good at pattern recognition -- if you look hard enough, you'll see MA Jinnah in the clouds.
@katiedimartin@astrogandhi What you’ve bet on: probability that said person is straight given they know their sign. What you’re collecting data for: probability that someone knows their sign given they’re straight. So I must ask: what’s your prior?!

@JibranHaithere and I will be presenting in an hour on topics of cosmological interest
@PlanetarySpiers Thank you for this! I was literally just thinking about doing the same but I can either do data analysis or hit refresh on my screen every 2 seconds. I’ve been doing the latter
@adnanadil1 Well founded theorems say the information that _you_ fell in is lost forever. Reversibility is lost. No one can resurrect you.
So, for the sake fo your loved ones, avoid jumping in to a blackhole!
@adnanadil1 This is potentially huge! the paradox represents one of the contradictions that arise from mixing QM and general relativity.Basic physics says you can't loose information, but what if you fall into a blackhole, and then the blackhole "evaporates"?
