Islam means Submission, Submission to Creator.
Human beings have free will, they can follow whichever way they want, but purpose of this test of life is which one will willingly without any force submit to his/her Creator?
Humen beings have choices but which one they choose is what will determine their future.
Everything in existence submit to Creator willingly or by force except two, human beings and another creation which isn't present in our dimension.
Because of free will, which means if human being choose not to submit to Creator, they can do so but it will be biggest violation and will have consequences.
But those who submit to Creator fulfill basic principle of existence, So as a reward for those who submit to Creator without any force, Creator will give them greatest life in a reality which isn't perceivable yet.
For those violated basic principle of not submitting to Creator and doing every violation in this life will have to pay for their deeds in also a reality which isn't perceivable yet.

Quran has all answers for those who reflect, but you need to remove preconceived notion, because it is divine book and it is designed so incredibly that it will affect individual on how individual thinks, if he is reading for sake of finding error, he will only see error, but if he is reading to find answers to reality, he will unlock wisdom that he has never seen.
Quran is greatest gift of the Creator to mankind.
