Johfra Bosschart’s depiction of Gemini represents a masterful take on what has been referred to as the Alchemical Marriage or Wedding. It symbolizes the union of opposites which has been expressed and visualized in countless ways over the ages. The parallels between this piece and The Lovers card, which corresponds with Gemini, are many. Gemini simultaneously represents duality opposed and unified which is thoughtfully echoed throughout this piece.

Perhaps my favorite detail is the caduceus with a mirror on top which both figures hold onto. According to the Penguin Dictionary of Symbols, it’s said that the mirror could be considered the “symbol of symbols” as everything symbolic is ultimately a reflection of source or the supreme principle. Naturally, the reflective dynamic of twins and partnerships relate to the mirror as well.

There are so many layers in this piece I encourage you to spend a little time exploring. What do you see? I’d love to know.
