@Stuffster5@NocturnalVivi@MissKateCherry (2/2) Most slasher films make final girls and hardly give them any meaningful development are see loved to the ends of the earth but someone like Sienna represents the very things people complain about and is overlooked. It’s baffling.
@Stuffster5@NocturnalVivi@MissKateCherry And the fact that the main plot point in the storyline revolves around a highly complex woman who overcomes trauma and pain to be able to stand against Art. Sienna is very different from other final girls that aspect.
@intellectuwoof It’s not being ignorant it’s the fact that we can recognize the angle of misogyny but it ends there and doesn’t talk about how most of Terrifier 3 is brutal, drawn out kills against men. It’s a different type of ignorance.
@NocturnalVivi@MissKateCherry The first movie has issues with graphic violence against women. Yet no one says anything about the gratuitous violence against men on the SAME level in T3.
@_bryndolyn And I understand the violence against women argument for the first one but the third one had more violent deaths for men and Damien created Sienna who’s such an incredibly complex final girl, especially in recent years.

@bulcsuhd_@_Domaaan_@arcanejuice@AndrewMp4_ No but it does have biomes of sorts. I’d take the endless yellow walls versus accidentally walking down the wrong path to the red city or any dark pool area.

My review:
Resident Evil 9 feels like the confident culmination of everything the franchise has been building toward since its modern revival. It blends psychological horror, survival tension, and blockbuster storytelling into an experience that’s both deeply unsettling and genuinely thrilling.
From the opening hours, the game establishes an oppressive atmosphere that rivals the best moments of the series. Dark, claustrophobic environments are paired with masterful sound design—every creaking floorboard and distant whisper keeps you on edge. Unlike entries that leaned heavily into action, Resident Evil 9 slows things down, forcing you to think, conserve resources, and sit with the fear rather than shoot your way through it. Yes it does have the action like what we’re used to in RE4R. What makes it stand out is the smart balance between horror and action however.
The story is surprisingly ambitious. Without spoiling anything, it explores the long-term consequences of past outbreaks and experiments in a way that feels personal, grounded, and unsettling. Characters are more nuanced than ever, and the narrative isn’t afraid to linger on moral ambiguity. It’s horror that sticks with you after you put the controller down.
Gameplay strikes an excellent balance between old school survival horror and modern polish. Inventory management matters again, puzzles are clever without being frustrating, and combat feels weighty and dangerous. Enemies aren’t just obstacles they’re threats that demand respect. Boss encounters, in particular, are memorable, blending spectacle with genuine tension rather than pure firepower.
One of Resident Evil 9’s strongest narrative elements is the dynamic between Grace and Leon Kennedy. Leon returns not as a larger-than-life action hero, but as a deeply worn survivor! Someone who has carried the weight of countless outbreaks and impossible choices. His experience brings gravitas to every scene he’s in, and the game smartly allows moments of silence and restraint to speak louder than dialogue ever could.
Grace, meanwhile, is a standout new character. She isn’t just a narrative companion or a plot device—she represents a different generation shaped by the aftermath of the horrors Leon helped contain. Her perspective challenges Leon’s hardened worldview, creating a compelling emotional contrast between cynicism and fragile hope. Their interactions feel grounded and human, often revealing more through subtle exchanges than dramatic monologues.
What makes their relationship work so well is how naturally it ties into the game’s themes of legacy, guilt, and survival. Leon’s protective instincts clash with Grace’s growing resolve, and that tension adds emotional weight to the story’s most critical moments. Together, they elevate the narrative, making the horror feel personal rather than purely catastrophic.
Visually, the game is stunning. Lighting does much of the heavy lifting, turning ordinary spaces into nightmare fuel. Character models are highly detailed, and the environmental storytelling rewards players who take their time to explore. Performance is largely solid, though there are occasional minor hiccups that keep it from absolute perfection.
Resident Evil 9 is a masterclass in modern survival horror. It respects the franchise’s roots while pushing its themes and storytelling forward in meaningful ways. With its gripping atmosphere, smart gameplay, and haunting narrative, if I had to score it EASY 10/10 but that’s just for me! For the average player someone coming in fresh?? Maybe a 9/10. This is whose line is it anyway though where the points are made up and it doesn’t matter. GO play for youself! This stands as one of the STRONGEST entries in the entire series!
