How good is your duck identification?
Can you identify these three ducks during "eclipse" plumage?

Eclipse plumage is worn by males for a month or so in summer after breeding. Soon after they will molt and grow their normal vibrant plumage.

On Saturday, September 23rd several small groups of Sandhill Cranes were spotted at the Preserve in the early morning and in the evening. Be on the lookout as more Sandhill Cranes make their way down the Pacific Flyway!

The Preserve hosts a diverse group of plants, with 294 natives and 214 introduced species documented since 1990. Many of the native species are found nowhere else in the world aside from the Central Valley.

Osprey eggs do not hatch all at once. Rather, the first chick emerges up to five days before the last one. The older hatchling dominates its younger siblings and can monopolize the food brought by the parents.
