I've been seeing a lot of manuscripts lately with dialogue that is *too* formal. Unnaturally formal or overly polished. Spend a day or two listening closely to how people speak to you throughout the day and see how that ends up changing your character's voices and dialogue.
This is your regular reminder that when I was hacked, they blocked anyone who interacted with me. Obviously if I've blocked you, you can't read this. But I just feel it's necessary to mention from time to time to set the record straight. If you know someone whom I've blocked, let them know. Ta.
This is one of the reasons why I am standing in Holborn and St Pancras.
Only a Green win will put the pressure on the Prime Minister for real change, and not copy and paste from Keir Starmer.
RIP Bonnie Greer, novelist, broadcaster and truely inspiration woman.
She was a great supporter of the Womensart project and the WA books and I'll cherish our chats forever.
A true intellectual & beautiful person. xx
What a day!
Brilliant again to speak to so many people today.
Voting Green in Holborn & St Pancras is a powerful vote for the entire country to keep Labour in check.

Reform have made £72m from two donors in a single day.
Absolutely obscene.
And Labour refuse to cap political donations.
The Green Party are funded and powered by you. Please donate to help us win Holborn & St Pancras today!

My thoughts are with the Prime Minister and his family as he grieves the loss of his father.
There are moments in life such as this sad time that transcend politics and I join the whole country in sending condolences.
WOW.
Massive thank you to the hundreds of people who volunteered in Holborn & St Pancras.
And a huge thank you to @owenjonesjourno for joining us!
Just getting started. See you tomorrow (Sunday) in Tavistock Square!

As an editor, I deeply believe in the value of getting feedback on your story.
But that doesn't mean you should let just anyone read it and give you their thoughts.
Because feedback from the wrong person can be actively HARMFUL to your process.
It might...
❌ send you down a revision path in the wrong direction
❌ shake your confidence in scenes that are actually working
❌ push your book toward the wrong genre conventions
❌ leave you more confused than when you started
I've seen writers get burned by bad feedback so many times.
So before you hand over your manuscript, ask:
✅ Does this person read (and understand) my genre?
✅ Do they have editorial experience?
✅ Can they effectively articulate WHY something isn't working?
Feedback is only as good as the person providing it. Be selective and thoughtful in who you share your story with!
We want to be absolutely clear that we are incredibly proud of the humanitarian work our volunteer lifeboat crews do to rescue vulnerable people in distress.
