UPDATE: Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 5 Commander Lance Hoyson provided me with an updated briefing regarding the shooting that occurred in Homewood earlier today. The suspect is detained, and law enforcement is currently reviewing video footage and witness statements.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Red Air Quality Alert for Fine Particulates on July 17th, 2026. This was caused due to wildfire smoke from Canada and Minnesota.

With temperatures expected to top 90° this Tuesday through Thursday (July 14–16), the City is activating the Homewood Healthy Active Living Center will operate as a cooling center from 8 AM–7 PM.
