@Lupen1203 Art is not the only beautiful or meaningful thing. Plenty of beauty in nature. But art is about intentional expression, and thus, without intent, is meaningless.
@HorrorPaperback Yeah, really a great movie, and the creature is top notch. Plus Lance Henrikson, and directed as you said by the singular Stan Winston. A wonderful creature feature, perfect for the season.
Happy to disagree respectfully on if it is worth it. I say it was not created because AI does not create. It produces. An important distinction in my view. I don't think AI will ever create anything, and I think it is much better spent used on improving human quality of life. Do all the boring stuff, the difficult stuff, to give actual creators, artists, writers, everyone that works on films, more time to create.
Not a single frame of that film was created by a human. It wasn't created at all. It was produced by an AI. Modified, sure, but not created. And yes, everything you listed is impressive, but the results are still garbage. So it really is wasted effort. In my opinion.
But lets see, we agree that AI will not create anything. We agree that AI will have a tremendous, hopefully positive, impact (eventually) on humanity. What we disagree on is whether it is worth using for making films. Right now, I say absolutely not, because the results are unwatchable, and all that time and effort could be used in a more productive manner.
Dude, you keep trying to dodge the point. Which is: Numbers go in and numbers come out. That's what AI is doing, and all it will ever do. Calculate numbers in complex ways. Impressive ways. Life changing ways. But it will not create anything.
The impressive part of AI film making, which we are talking about here, will be the prompt. It will start and end at the prompt. Because that is the only creation happening. And right now, AI produced video looks like shit. It is stuck in the deep recesses of the uncanny valley. The numbers come out and should just be flushed down the toilet.
So yeah, this guy has some cool ideas, has a creative mind. But all of that is wasted because the AI produced output is unwatchable. To me.
@waytoomuchbeer@memarkattwood Yes, it is quite the accomplishment. I'm not dismissing it at all. Creating a device that can solve math equations is an accomplishment. Typing in 9+9, not so much. Clear now? AI is impressive, and will fundamentally change humanity. But it won't create a single thing.
@NemPerez I am protesting the fact that it looks like shit. It's garbage that I don't want to watch. So all the effort, which I do not deny, is wasted. Which just makes it worse.
@iwwon_official 1. It looks like shit. 2. CGI and full 3D animation are tools , like brushes and pencils, that allow human beings to create. AI just processes information and generates output. The creation ends at the prompt.
@waytoomuchbeer@memarkattwood Computer produced media and yes. It's just an expanded output from a calculator. Numbers go in, and numbers go out. But we aren't lauding people for putting 9+9 into their calculator and getting 18. Because the computer does all the work.
@deadsun_0 A lot of effort went into this production, but I feel it is a waste because the results, the AI video generation, look like garbage, and I will not watch it. I do not want this to be the future of film production because we will lose so much artistry.
@rovik90s I doubt it's box office performance really matters to it's success. I how the performance is low enough that it discourages studios from investing in this type of movie production.
@UFOstaysFalling@fableshowrunner@Gossip_Goblin I suspect they typed a lot of prompts. And there was a script, the voice recording, plus a tremendous amount of editing and post process work. It's unarguably an achievement to get this done. I just feel like it's a waste because the end result is unwatchable.
