The idea that trauma is some key diagnostic criteria for DID being spread around online doing three things:
1. Discouraging people who have DID from seeking help.
2. Twisting scientific theory to suit an ableist narrative about “fakers.”
3. Encouraging ableist harassment.

Being anti-ableism includes removing ableist language from your vocabulary.

Words like “Mentally Ill”, “Schizophrenic”, “Delusional”, “Autistic”, “Narcissist”, “Bipolar”, “Psychotic”, “Anorexic”, and “Bulimic” shouldn’t be used as insults.

Being Mentally Ill is not an insult.

There are straight trans people, straight ace people, straight aro people, straight intersex people, and varioriented people.

There are straight people who belong in our community and we should be careful not to exclude them.
