Happy Dolly Day! The Museum is one of twenty-one Middle Tennessee nonprofits taking part in Give Like Dolly – Middle Tennessee, a three-day giving campaign presented by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Music Community Foundation in celebration of Parton's lifelong generosity. From September 25 through 27, gifts made through the campaign to “Help Someone Find Their Song” support the Museum’s work, as well as four other local nonprofits that encourage youth creativity. The Museum has been helping people find their songs since 1979 through its innovative Words & Music program, which has served more than 200,000 students, who have learned to write song lyrics while developing key language arts skills. In early 2026, country-rock singer-songwriter Stephen Wilson Jr. visited the Museum in support of writer-editor Erin Osmon's new book, "Won’t Back Down: Heartland Rock and the Fight for America." The program featured a brief performance from Wilson, including this cover of the John Mellencamp classic "Pink Houses."

This Friday, September 25, join us in the Museum's CMA Theater to celebrate Dolly Parton Day! Enjoy a free screening of "9 to 5" and several other Dolly-inspired activities, including a butterfly-coloring station, a "9 to 5"-themed photo opportunity, and footage from the Museum’s Frist Library and Archive.

Parton wore this cowgirl outfit, made by the Western Costume Co., in “9 to 5,” and it’s currently on display in the Museum’s "Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker" exhibit, open through October 4. If you'd like to visit the exhibit prior to the film screening, gallery hours are extended until 7:00 PM, and tickets are available for purchase online.

Tommy Emmanuel, Jeremy Dylan, and Brian Penix | Film Screening and Conversation | October 1, 2:00–4:00 PM

Thursday, October 1, meet at the Museum for a screening of the documentary “The Endless Road,” the story of guitar ace Tommy Emmanuel. Following the screening, Museum writer-editor Jon Freeman will host a discussion about the film with Emmanuel, director Jeremy Dylan, and producer Brian Penix.

In 2015, the Museum curated an exhibit showcasing @LukeBryan's life and career. More than a decade later, we continue celebrating his contributions to country music through the display of his stage wear in the Museum's permanent exhibit, "Sing Me Back Home."

With this Patti Brothers piano accordion and others like it, Country Music Hall of Fame member Pee Wee King broke new ground in country music by bringing waltzes, polkas, and cowboy songs into mainstream country music during ten productive years at the Grand Ole @Opry.

Twenty-five years ago, @GillianWelch released her acclaimed third album, "Time (The Revelator)." The album—now something of Americana myth—was recorded with Welch’s longtime musical partner @TheDaveRawlings at Nashville's Historic @RCAStudioB. Welch and Rawlings returned to the studio in early 2026 to reflect on making the record and to cover @DollyParton's "Coat Of Many Colors," also recorded there.

Last night, Grammy-winning artists @LaineyWilson, @JellyRoll615, and @LukasNelson took the stage at the Museum’s "All for the Hall Los Angeles" benefit, presented by the Willard & Pat Walker Charitable Foundation. Grammy award-winner @JohnMayer made a cameo appearance, playing "Phone, Keys, Wallet" with Wilson—the first time they’ve performed the song together live. The event took place at The Novo in the L.A. Live complex. Proceeds from the evening support the Museum’s many educational offerings, including its flagship "Words & Music" program. The event also included a performance by six high school students from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles of their song "I’ll Overcome," which they wrote during a "Words & Music" program with their class.

A new installation featuring the signature styles of rodeo tailor Nudie Cohn is now on display at the Museum. Cohn opened Nudie's Rodeo Tailors in 1950, and his custom-made, rhinestone-accented "Nudie suits" became closely associated with country music. Cowboy actors, rock & roll royalty, and performers such as Lefty Frizzell, Little Jimmy Dickens, Hank Snow, and Porter Wagoner all sparkled under stage lights in Cohn's designs.

“American Currents: State of the Music” | Jesse Welles

In September 2025, Arkansas native Jesse Welles received the @AMERICANAFEST Spirit of Americana Free Speech in Music award. Presented to Welles by John Fogerty at the 24th annual Americana Honors & Awards, the personalized wood trophy was painted by Stef Ratliff.

Yesterday, producer, musician, and singer-songwriter @MacMcAnally participated in a Musician Spotlight program at the Museum. During Musician Spotlights, artists perform, share inside stories, and discuss their creative process and technique. The Musician Spotlight was presented in support of the exhibitions "Kenny Chesney: Living in Fast Forward," presented by @BlueChairBayRum, and "Muscle Shoals: Low Rhythm Rising," supported by OneLouder. The program was made possible in part by @PedigreeUS and @PedigreeFound.

Bob Mackie, the late Hollywood costume and fashion designer for stars such as Carol Burnett, Cher, and Tina Turner, also touched the world of country music. He designed outfits for Country Music Hall of Fame members Dolly Parton and Frances Preston (four of Preston’s Mackie dresses are in the Museum’s collection) as well as the recent showgirl costume for Taylor Swift, whose Mackie headdress is currently on view in the Museum. This spectacular outfit that Mackie designed for Country Music Hall of Fame member Dottie West is also on display in the Museum.

"American Currents: State of the Music" | I’m With Her

Multi-instrumentalists @SarahJarosz, @ODonovanAoife, and @SaraWatkins formed

the group @ImWithHerband and released their acclaimed debut album in 2018. When the trio reconvened in 2025, the magic was still present. This October, Jarosz will take the Museum's @CMATheater stage to celebrate ten years of her Grammy-winning solo work, "Undercurrent."

Country Music Hall of Fame member Roy Acuff helped bridge country music’s rural stringband era and the modern era with his longtime backing band, the Smoky Mountain Boys. Sara Carter purchased this Zimmermann autoharp around 1910 and used it on Carter Family recordings, including at the 1927 Bristol Sessions.
