Here are some of the common causes:

1️⃣ Always wash your knapsack before use.

A knapsack may have previously been used to apply a herbicide. Even a small amount of chemical residue can severely damage your crop if you later use the same knapsack for fungicides or insecticides.

The knapsack may have been used by:
✅ A neighbour
✅ A farm worker
✅ Another farmer

Never assume it is clean—wash it thoroughly before every use.

2️⃣ Use separate knapsacks.

If possible, invest in different knapsacks for different purposes:

🌿 One for Herbicides
🐛 One for Insecticides
🦠 One for Fungicides
🐄 One for Livestock products

This greatly reduces the risk of chemical contamination.

3️⃣ Apply chemicals at the correct time.

Timing is critical for effective spraying.

The best times to spray are:

🌅 Early morning: 5:00 AM – 8:00 AM
🌇 Late afternoon/evening: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

During these periods, temperatures are cooler, evaporation is lower, and the crop is better able to absorb the chemical. Spraying during the hottest part of the day can reduce effectiveness and may increase the risk of crop injury under some conditions.

4️⃣ Calibrate your sprayer.

Never guess the application rate.

Incorrect calibration can lead to:
❌ Crop scorching
❌ Poor pest and disease control
❌ Wasted chemicals
❌ Financial losses

Always measure the correct volume of water and chemical according to the recommended application rate.

5️⃣ Always read the product label.

The label provides the correct:
📌 Mixing rate
📌 Application method
📌 Safety precautions
📌 Crop recommendations

If you are unsure, consult your Agronomist or ask for guidance at the agro-dealer where you purchased the product.

💡 Remember: Proper chemical handling, correct timing, and accurate application are essential for protecting your crop and maximizing your yields.
