As is well known, Turki Al-Sheikh has entered into formal negotiations to invest in and acquire Derby County, the English Championship club and one of the 12 founding clubs of the English Football League (1888). The deal is currently in advanced stages and awaits regulatory approval 🐏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Turki Al-Sheikh held direct talks with club owner David Clowes to offer financial support and acquire a significant stake in the club. This comes as Derby County seeks substantial additional funding to strengthen its squad and compete strongly for promotion back to the Premier League. The club finished last season in eighth place in the Championship, just four points away from the play-offs. While the club boasts technical stability and a large fan base, it lacks the necessary funds to make the major signings needed to secure promotion to the Premier League 📊

The club is undergoing audits by the English Football Association to ensure its independence and compliance with financial regulations. Al-Sheikh's experience leading Almeria from the second division to La Liga (before its subsequent sale) makes his project very promising for a significant leap forward for the English club. The current owner, Klaus, is open to selling, with up to 80% of the shares being offered to the club's strong shareholders, and a substantial financial investment is expected. The chairman of the board is Saudi 🇸🇦

This investment, if completed, would be a major step, bringing Al-Sheikh back to European sports investment after his successful experience with Spanish club Almería, and an even bigger step for the prestigious English Derby County ✅

@ClarkeMicah @Geordie_grandad The UK really does look Victorian with regards to its attitude towards cannabis. If Germany can legalise its use then perhaps we should consider a grown up debate about the amount of police time and money currently spent on prosecuting its cultivation, distribution and use.
