This position by Hochman is so problematic in that he talks about Erik testifying without acknowledging all the defence witnesses and evidence that wasn’t allowed in. And he thinks it’s appropriate for him to complain about the media simplifying narratives. @MenendezRand

The defense witnesses that testfied were severely limited from their original testimony. Yes, Erik was on the stand for 40 hours. But the juries in Menendez 1 heard much more mitigating evidence than simply the brothers' testimony. The 2nd trial jury heard a completely different set of evidence limited by the prosecutors and trial judge.
And there was the fix.

In a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals hearing in 2005, Justice Alex Kozinski stated he thought the first trial was "rigged" and implied there'd been "collusion" between the DA and judge to convict the #MenendezBrothers in their retrial.

DA Hochman: "The media is in search of simple narratives, conflicting narratives, and so it adopted the Geragos narrative. Which was very smart, very creative. It’s basically that the trial was all about sexual abuse, that their response was because of sexual abuse. It’s that a conviction was only attained because the evidence of sexual abuse didn’t occur in the second trial, but occurred in the first trial, and therefore that the underlying conviction is wrong and should be fixed. Very simple narrative. What makes it a little bit more complicated? And that’s why the media would have to do additional work. No offense to your profession." With all due respect, Mr. Hochman, I was at both trials daily and have a strong understanding about what happened after 35 years of covering the case.
