Just landed back home from #ICED2025. Enjoyed connecting with passionate people in the ED field. A highlight was the multidisciplinary panel discussion on GLP-1s, timely and insightful ✨
Loved the opportunity to present our research at #ICED on the experiences of seeking ED tx as a vegetarian/vegan. If you’re interested in learning more, our paper is available open access at https://t.co/XLg8anPQSM
New pub alert! Here we provide useful indicators for untying potentially pathological vegetarianism and veganism from EDs. Check it out open access in IJED!!

So honoured to have been awarded the @aedweb ECR travel grant to attend ICED in May in San Antonio! I’ll be presenting our recently published paper on the tx experiences of vegetarians/vegans with an ED. See you there!
I was honoured to share our findings exploring motivations, social identity, and wellbeing in Australian vegan men at the @ASBHM1 2025 conference. A magical collaboration with Monash, SCU and CQU. @BestTalitha@JessicaBayes4@CourtneyPMcLean Julian Madsen
Congratulations @CourtneyPMcLean on the succesful publication of: The Treatment Experiences of Vegetarians and Vegans with an Eating Disorder: A Qualitative Study https://t.co/T6POPo7Fks #mdpinutrients via @Nutrients_MDPI
Taken together, our findings support that an acknowledgment and openness to work within a vegetarians/vegans values within tx may contribute to enhanced experiences.
We interviewed 17 participants (76% female, 41% vegan) with a history of receiving ED treatment while being vegetarian/vegan and found five main themes.
@VerdejoGAntonio has a PhD stipend available for innovative thinkers in neuroscience and eating disorders! Message him directly if you’re interested! @MonashPsych@turnerinstitute
The proposal of the vegan-informed approach to care is super interesting and absolutely an area for future research to support this framework! Exploring trauma may also provide a useful steppingstone to understanding this relationship.
There are several helpful resources for clinical practice in here, such as questionnaires, checklists, and potential indicators of pathological vegan adherence. Clinicians may look to review these resources when working with vegan clients.
This book so beautifully broke down the many facets of veganism and its intersection with EDs. You absolutely do not need to have an expert knowledge on the topic to read this book.
