"Just learned from our school nurse that they're only testing 20% of students each week FOR THE FIRST 5 WEEKS. Each student will be tested once, not the random representative testing promised. What happens if a student comes in with COVID the week after they get tested?" #phled
Along with @CaucusofWE and other groups, we've put together a crowd sourced COVID dashboard until @PHLschools gets it together and creates their own. We're just starting to gather data. You can check it out here: https://t.co/swnZD1S9EE #phlEd
Dashboard update! We have gotten a bunch of submissions today. That includes a few from Rhawnhurst that could be the same instance submitted by multiple people - impossible to tell from the letters, unfortunately, so it's just listed once for now. #phlEd https://t.co/swnZD1S9EE
As a new group of #phled school staff return to their classrooms for reopening, the stories of dirty and unprepared buildings continue to come in. These situations are not safe, & they're not good the learning of the few students in-person nor the majority who are still virtual.
"My school was determined to be ready for reopening, but when I entered, the desks were covered in dust and dirt. The bathroom sink in my classroom was growing mold, as seen in the picture. Is this SDP’s definition of 'cleaned and sanitized'?" - Anonymous Teacher #phled
"Extending the expiration date"?? The CDC says expired tests should not be used. @PHLschoolboard@PHLCouncil is this acceptable for our children? #PHLed
"Dr. Hite is replacing window fans with air purifiers, but EPA says that air purifiers are NOT a replacement for lack of ventilation. We need functioning ventilation systems, not more cheap fixes.

Thread shows the kind of info workers need to be assured a workplace is safe.Teachers have the same rights as all workers to have their fears addressed before being forced to enter a workplace. #DemandSafeSchools
"Just like the dollar-store fans, SDP is providing expired & questionable COVID tests for students, then lying to families w/ promises it will be safe! Why do our majority Black & Latino students & their families get substandard medical supplies?" - Anonymous School Nurse #phled
"I’m a school nurse. The rapid COVID tests provided by CHOP are set to expire on March 11th, 4 days after kids return to school buildings. CHOP originally promised to send new tests, which were supposed to arrive by the time the kids did..." #phled
"When therapists arrived at the schools on Weds, principals who weren’t expecting them struggled to find space, PPE, & more sessions were missed. We were put in unsafe situations in buildings we don’t even work in. How is this good for students? How was this allowed to happen?"
"On Tues afternoon, occupational & physical therapists were suddenly told to report in-person to one of the 53 schools opening the next morning on Weds, even if they didn't have any cases signed up for hybrid (and would just be working virtually from the building)..." #phled
"Therapists who couldn’t arrange emergency childcare were told to call out - meaning their (still virtual) students would miss therapy sessions. Therapists who struggled to manage the logistics of this last second directive were threatened with write-ups..."
"Pre-K to 2 staff should be at home like the rest of the grades. We are still doing our jobs with our whole hearts, but with mouse droppings everywhere, dust filled classrooms, trash cans filled until the we call the office..." -Paraprofessional, Deburgos Elementary #phled
"I'm beyond appalled & saddened by the lack of respect for teachers. Again we’ve been lied to- at no time since March 2020 has anyone gone into my room to clean, let alone disinfect anything! But you think this is ok for our students come & learn in?" - Muñoz-Marin Elem. #phled
