Feel brutal for Wild fans. That team was so good and you lose your best center and a stud top 4 d man against the best team in the league. Just a kick in the dick. Minnesota sports fans are pros at getting their hearts ripped out.
Minny just ran out of gas. That overtime looked like Wild players were in the 5ot. It was only a matter of a time. The Loss of Eriksson ask and Brodin was just too much. Colorado is too good. Wow just 5 games can’t believe it.
I am struggling to feel good about back-to-back WFC appearances. I know I should be grateful, I know that it is awesome to have meaningful sports this time of year, and I'm very happy about the Frost and their success and even the Lynx.
However, I turned 30 this year and the four men's pro teams that I have rooted for my entire life have not even made it to a championship, let alone win one. There are people even older than me who have little to no memory of 1991 and they're damn near 40 years old. Minnesota's average life expectancy is 79, so that basically means there is a large amount of Minnesota sports fans who have literally lived half their lives without seeing just one of their teams reach the final two in the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL.
Of the 12 markets that have all of the "big four" teams, the second longest championship appearance drought is Detroit, who hasn't seen a title game since 2012. The longest drought, of course, is Minnesota, by a margin of 21. All other 11 cities have won at least two titles since 1991, with Detroit also having the second longest championship drought as you have to go back to 2008 since they won a title. The Red Wings lifted the Stanley Cup a little under 18 years after the Twins won the most recent Minnesota men's championship.
It appears the streak of 128ish consecutive seasons without a title game appearance by any of the "big four" will continue unless we have a basketball version of the Minneapolis Miracle. If you're a better person than me who can be happy and grateful for what we've had, I salute you. If you are a more negative person than I and you want to sulk and go doom and gloom on the bit, I understand you.
The optimist in me says we are more than due. The Twins are looking up again, the JJs are best buds already as the Vikings seem to be at the beginning of a special few years, the Wild are finally going to have room to breathe with the cap on top of an already solid foundation and gosh darn it, this Wolves core is truly special and are so close to putting it all together.
In the meantime, maybe we start throwing conference final appearance parades?
Didn't know I had to hear this tonight, but maybe one of yall need it too.
