No, really - "cattle" and "capital" started life as the same Latin word: capitale, from caput ("head"), meaning "property."

The two split apart over time, but the root is shared - because for most of history, your cattle were your wealth. Finance and farm animals have been tangled up for a very long time.

Why can't a trade on one chain touch the ETH/USDC liquidity on the other ten?

Not really - solvers race in a fixed time window, then the winner settles the whole batch in one on-chain tx. That short wait buys you better prices through competition, not a slow trade.

Sometimes one solver wins the whole batch. Sometimes solvers split it between them.

A split only happens if every trader in it ends up with a better deal than they'd get from any single solver alone. If even one trader is worse off, the split gets thrown out.
