Why would a game like war thunder with a decade-long history of pure vehicle action decide to branch into infantry?

It's both in direct competition to other IP's of Gaijin and inflates the file size needlessly for anyone who only cares about-

Beyond this we also have the issue of premium to non-premium becoming increasingly worse.

When 60% of an updates vehicles are not something a free-to-play player can get, it doesn't give people incentive to come play the game.
