Calling all Climate Craftivists!
If you're a maker who uses their craft to advocate for conservation, Climate Justice or the natural world, we would love to hear from you!
We're making a database of 'Climate Craftivists' for our Making for Climate Change project. We'll use the database to find 5 artists to work with a group of LGBTQIA+ 18 to 25 year olds to explore how they can use crafting as a tool for climate activism in their community.
When I’m not producing with Craftspace, I’m running storytelling workshops; organising Thai boxing classes; supporting the running of a community cafe; or working on my eco-poetry. I’m really excited to be exploring Making for Climate Change over the next few months!
Meet the newest member of the Craftspace Youth team, Erin Gilbey.
We asked Erin to tell us a bit about themselves.
Hi, I’m Erin, I’m a Birmingham-based freelance creative producer, writer and facilitator with a keen interest in eco and queer narratives.
We're recruiting for an experienced & energetic Administrative Assistant to join our small & busy creative team, providing maternity cover for 2024.

Do you have any advice for young artists?
Sometimes the hardest thing about creativity is finding time and confidence to start a project. I try and do something everyday, be it sing, dance or draw. To me, you don’t have to be the best, it’s about the process, not the final result
Young people told us it was important to be creative but many don’t use their voice for activism. @OlyBliss is an artist who uses his work to comment on a wide range of issues incl. ideas of masculinity &the environment. We’re working with Oly & we spoke to him about his practice
We have a range of creative workshop sessions that people are invited to for free. The sessions I run help people develop drawing skills whilst learning about local history & heritage. Participants will create a body of work to culminate in an exhibition launch in March 2024.
