@Andrewnsnyder I have a close friend who will likely step into Heaven this year due to cancer. I’m going to visit him and give him my copy of The Great Divorce. He’s ready, spiritually, and I think he’ll appreciate the book. Thank you for bringing it to mind.
I made deviled eggs for a church picnic today, and they were all gone by the time I got through the line. I had even forgotten to take a chef’s sample, so I got none. Zilch. I’m tempted to be a tad grumpy.
@307Fool In my retirement accounts I tick the box that says “reinvest dividends.” Small move, but last week it automatically bought more shares of some great ETFs.
@lisavsworld My wife spent a year in Mishima before we were engaged. She has similar stories of the craziness of navigating both a different culture and also difficult men.
A warning: placing your analog outdoor thermometer where it gets direct morning sunlight might scare the crap out of you. Thankfully it'll only reach 94° today not 110°.
@musings_blonde She did! She's married and has a son and lives several states away. I wasn't as good to her as I should have been, but I still pray for her to have joy and peace.
I have a sad and funny promise ring story. My first girlfriend had difficult family and was desperate to get away from them, and she latched on to me in an unhealthy way. I was immature and not very emotionally together either. At one point I bought her a promise ring not because I had noble aspirations of following through, but just to alleviate her increasing anxiety (yes I know now this was horribly wrong). The night I was going to give it to her I accidentally ran over her dog. She knew I had the ring and just told me to wait. I never got around to giving it to her and we broke up shortly after. It was a ludicrous disaster all around, but I’m glad I never followed through on that particular bad idea.
Headed to Chickamauga, GA to see @piercerpettis performing at Chickapalooza. I've been listening to him since '88, and his songwriting hits me emotionally like few others.
So many things are beyond my control. This is one of the reasons I pray. It relieves anxiety to remind myself that God is a rock under my feet. "I waited patiently for the Lord, he turned to me and heard my cry...he set my feet upon a rock and gave me a firm place to stand."
After college I taught English at a high school in the Czech Republic. A student would give me a daily weather report and give the temperature in Celsius and then “degrees ferrets.” I should have corrected him, but I loved hearing and thinking about Fahrenheit as “degrees ferrets.”
Poll for Americans 🥶
Your home AC in summer is set to:
A) Comfortable, around 22-24°C
B) Arctic. I literally wear a hoodie indoors ❄️
In Japan we suffer at 28°C with one little fan 🥵
Reply A or B + your state 🙋
Happy Father's Day to all the dad's doing their best. In my late teens I wished my dad was different, by 25 I realized he was doing his best with what he had, by 35 I thought he was the best. Now in my mid 50s I couldn't be more grateful and I dearly hope I'm as good a dad as he has been.
