Our meetings around developing the xQ training platform are looking a little different these days... but our enthusiasm is unchanged. We're very excited about creating an online platform where experts & novices can develop their knowledge & skill in perceptual expertise!
Excited to be featured in the latest edition of @NIFS The Forensic Exhibit regarding this year’s Creating Perceptual Experts research summit! Check it out here:

@CrambAmy is running participants through a study based on the Flashed Face Distortion Effect we discovered in 2011: Differences in features like forehead size, or distance between the eyes, when seen in the context of others faces are exaggerated. https://t.co/MCRo3WV87f
Protocol analysis tasks (think-aloud procedures) are useful for understanding how people analyse tasks in real time. Applying this to fingerprint expertise, we seek to understand how novices and experts think differently as they decide whether two prints match or not.
We've developed ten fingerprint tasks for our Creating Perceptual Expertise experiment. 'Spot the Difference' presents two identical prints with a small section altered in one. Participants then try to locate the difference between the prints as quickly as they can.
Sneak peek from this year’s Creating Perceptual Experts summit, where reps from policing, forensics, defence, & home affairs agencies came together with us to discuss key research into perceptual expertise. Thanks to @AusFedPolice for hosting, and all who attended & contributed!
How does fingerprint distortion impact fingerprint decisions? @AusFedPolice discussed issues around print distortion, technological tools for investigating distortion, and what information experts need to consider for decision-making.
In order to study fingerprint expertise, we asked fingerprint examiners to identify top-performing peers in their field. @Chloe_CASHH & @CrambAmy discuss the key themes of nominated experts: superior performance, superior knowledge base, effective work processes, & experience.
Jason Tangen (@tangenjm) leads discussion around bringing existing knowledge together in online, cross-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary program—a Cognitive Forensics Masterclass accessible to professionals who utilise forensics, and tailored to suit their needs & interests.
