Ta-Nehisi Coates in a 2015 letter to his son: “Here is what I would like for you to know: In America, it is traditional to destroy the black body—it is heritage.” https://t.co/OkK1aWLO4B
A stranger comes up to you and says “You look really familiar, do you shop at Madewell a lot? I used to work there.”
And then your friends never let you live it down.
I made friends with a nurse from Iowa. We’ve worked a few shifts in Michigan together, here’s how our interactions with other people go:
Person: “Where are you guys from?”
Me: “Idaho”
Friend from Iowa: “Iowa”
Person: “oh, so you guys came from the same hospital then?”
On wild nights Gabe & I watch House Hunters International in bed & predict whether the couples last & whether they’ll actually make it living in whatever country they’ve decided to explore together & travel blog about. Then we find them on Instagram. Spoiler: they move back home.
With homeownership I’ve found a new hobby. It involves painting white rooms different shades of white and then continually talking about what a difference it made. One room down, the rest of the house to go.
Tonight one of my patients was watching this week’s Bachelorette & I told her I was going to watch it when I got home. From then on every time I walked in the room she changed the channel so I didn’t see any spoilers. That’s the ideal patient.

I’m in Seattle with my grandparents for a few days. Today we took my grandpa to an appointment and this is how my grandma introduced me to 9 different people:
“This is my granddaughter, she’s a registered nurse, she’s been married two years and she just bought a house.”
