I'm learning to live with high hopes but low expectations. I'm an idealistic pessimist. I know what I want from life and I'll never stop being a dreamer but I always keep in mind what's realistic.
As a neurodivergent person, your dream life is surprisingly simple.
Not luxury.
Not hustle.
Not optimization.
Just: • enough income to breathe
• enough energy to enjoy being alive
• people who understand your weirdness
• a home that feels safe
• a brain that isn't constantly at war with itself
That's the dream.
No longer being in contact with someone you once were in love with so odd because yeah, I think of you when I see all the little things you love, on certain days, when I hear certain songs, and whenever someone says something you did, but I can't tell you that. I can't text you when I miss you or that I still love you despite the fact that I always will. there is no where to put all this love but there's so much of it and it's just so sad
Forgiveness is a fools gift, it's why they say about fools in love, because only a fool in love would forgive anything. I'll always be the fool because my heart won't let me be anything else. I'd forgive it all if I was asked, that's the love I hold.
Neurotypicals will be like " know you have a disability that affects your ability to stay organized, manage your time properly, socialize, or control what you're able to think about or focus on, but that's not an excuse to have trouble staying organized, managing your time properly, socializing, or controlling what you need to think about or focus on." And then demand that they aren't ableist. I'm tired.
ADHD: The “Quick Online Purchase”
8:00 PM — I need a new pillow.
8:09 PM — I’m comparing memory foam densities.
8:44 PM — A Reddit thread convinces me cooling gel is a scam invented by Big Bedding.
9:30 PM — I’m researching sleep posture across different civilizations.
10:15 PM — Ancient Egyptians apparently used wooden headrests. Horrifying.
11:02 PM — I take a sleep quality quiz with 73 questions.
11:48 PM — I decide I can survive with my current pillow a little longer.
having anxiety and depression is like being scared and tired at the same time. It's the fear of failure but no urge to be productive. It's wanting to be alone but not wanting to be lonely. It's caring about everything then caring about nothing. It's feeling everything at once then feeling paralysingly numb
I think the purest form of love is just wanting someone to notice life with you. "taste this. look at that. hear this song." again and again. until you can't imagine noticing life without them.
One of the reasons people don't recognize ADHD as a disability is that they see ADHD struggles (with things like organisation, tidyness, timeliness, communication etc) as personal failings. That is ableism.
The most destructive piece of internet lore ever created is the phrase: "If they wanted to, they would."
It sounds empowering, but it is actually deeply narcissistic. It assumes that a person’s actions are dictated 100% by their desire for you, while completely ignoring their capacity.
A partner can desperately want to give you the world, but if they are fighting a silent financial war, battling burnout, or dealing with a health crisis, their capacity is at zero. Measuring a stressed partner's love strictly by their ability to "perform" is a lethal mistake. "If they wanted to, they would" is the fastest way to lose a fiercely loyal partner over a temporary lack of bandwidth.
And no one ever talks about how hard it is to be grateful and sad at the same time. You’re going through something but still aware of how blessed you are. That constant shift in perspective is exhausting in itself.
There are so many words I want to say, how hurt I am, how angry I am, how I don't understand, but most of all I just wish I could say I miss you. What's worse is I could, I could reach out again to get nothing back which is exactly why I know I can't.
Yes I do seem OK, I seem like I'm better off, I get up & handle my responsibilities, I laugh, I joke & make plans, I say I'm fine & that I don't care. I also shut down for the whole weekend cause it was the only time I had to feel. Tomorrow I'll get up and the cycle starts again
Emotional dysregulation is like having a volume knob for your feelings that only has two settings: "Off" and "Explosion."
A minor critique from a boss doesn't just feel like feedback it feels like a physical punch to the chest. I’m not being "dramatic." My brain literally lacks the emotional shock absorbers that everyone else seems to have.
I don't just feel my emotions; I survive them.
