Just going to flash forward to 2031, where the program is over time, over budget, and failing to meet expectations because the Navy is effectively incapable of buying a design off the shelf and tried to shove a full SPY-6(V)1 into a Mogami.
like no, i don’t think it’s plausible that if your sister-in-law stopped insisting everybody call her “Dr,” it would somehow halt the authoritarian implosion of western society.
It remains baffling to me that this universally accepted description of presidential conduct isn't immediately recognized as manifestly impeachable. https://t.co/nApHjMQjii
Did Kash Patel take the FBI jet to attend his girlfriend's concert in Penn State and bring her back home to Nashville over the weekend? FBI didn't respond to allegations he did. via @willsommer
One of my pet peeves is talk of "high risk, high reward science" as though there is some strong intrinsic connection. In portfolio theory there is a good (though not infallible) connection between the two. In science the reasoning from portfolio theory breaks down, and the connection between risk and reward is less clear, as explained in the following screenshot
I tried once to track down the popular usage of the phrase. Many of the earlier uses were in connection with DARPA, and I eventually concluded - though I am not sure - that it was basically a marketing phrase for them
Somebody front ran the Brazil tariff news.
Somebody bought a HUGE amount of USD and shorted BRL (Brazil’s currency) at 1:32 PM.
The 50% tariff announcement came at 4:19 PM, at which point, it looks like the big trader exited his trade instantly.
Making 2.5% on a currency trade (which are usually 10-20x leveraged) so really 25% to 50% in less than 3hours.
The most openly corrupt administration of all time.
"not getting off food stamps so i can go to the aquarium free for life" is the type of baby-brained shit i visit twitter dot com to see
thank you, "wall street apes"
Horrific seeing the destruction of the Physics Department at University of Khartoum @u_of_k by the RSF (photos taken this week) in the ongoing war. Our 2023 school was cancelled with the outbreak of the war (pics from previous years below)
Gutting scientific funding and scaring away talented immigrants while raising the cost of manufacturing stuff in America is, genuinely, like something we’d be forced to do after losing a war to a geopolitical adversary that deviously sought to hamstring US technological power for generation.
By blacklisting Harvard, the government is saying "In cases where Harvard is found to objectively be the best place in America to do specific research by our own meritocratic standards, we promise to go with an inferior team that aligns with our rightwing political agenda."
There's no reason to characterize the earlier moves of the BLM and ERS as something that "didn't always go smoothly."
The main goal was to get most employees to quit, and this happened in both cases. The moves didn't save money, but that wasn't the point.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a 2021 book wrote that Americans had been "misled ... into believing that measles is a deadly disease."
He said measles outbreaks had been "fabricated" to push people towards vaccines.
Make a huge mistake. Then make a false claim about how you fixed it.
They did it for PEPFAR.
Now Ebola.
I follow this particular topic VERY closely, so here's what really happened and why this isn't true AT ALL...🧵
Very excited to share the first (but not last!) experimental paper from the group, led by Nick Dale & Omar Ashour (Fear not, my presence in the lab was minimal…) Extremely fun collaboration w @molecularfndry@advlightsource@NERSC@BerkeleyLab 1/2
