LOTF Shelter Challenge: Winner for Best Wtitten Instructions (thorough steps with explicit directions for all supplies used). This design also came in 2nd for structure - the roof was reinforced but didn't prevent rain leaks
LOTF Shelter Challenge: Winner for Most Structurally Sound (no flooding, no leaks, not one leaf moved in high winds, and no earthquake took down this beast).
The results are in! LOTF shelters needed to face winds, rains, flooding, and earthquakes in today's challenge! Then students voted on which structures prevailed in the following categories: Most Structurally Sound; Most Creative; Best Aesthetic; and Best Written Instructions(1/5)

Students may keep an additional amendment, but they must amend it in some way. This gave them a deeper understanding of how the laws can work and allowed them to write argumentatively, as well as have ownership over their rights. Thanks @MikeWino1987 🇺🇸 (3/3)
The kids found the entire lesson a meaningful experience in understanding both their rights and their Constitution as a legal document. Activity: Students can only keep 3 of the first 10 amendments and must present an arguable defense of these 3. Bonus task... (2/3)
We'll use this data to create a writing rubric that focuses on skills they'll work on improving and honing over the next 16 weeks. They told me how much they love the fact that they got to conference with peers and have a chance to share this information. (2/2)
