Turned an old short story into the first scene of a script today. Suddenly having an appreciation for how hard it must be to turn books into movies...

Fantasy authors writing about wizards slinging spells are still writing what they know.

They haven't experienced the fantastical events, but they have experienced similar emotions the characters do.

And if they have, readers have too. It's an authentic way of connecting on a deeper level, disguised as cool magic battles.
