Short 🧵 on what it’s all about:
Sakha: resource wealth, limited control
Sakha (Yakutia), Russia’s largest region, holds diamonds, gold, and natural gas. GRP: $26.64 billion. Its resources generate wealth, but major financial flows are controlled by the federal center. Resource wealth and local control are not the same.

The full forum can be read here, it’s open access and contains crucial transregional dialogues on the (not only) Soviet legacy and the way forward https://t.co/Lg0718uthv
This text is now out, in which I reflect on @CreativeCorazon’s Kazakh Spring alongside the Prague Spring and the Arab Spring. Diana's book gives a powerful account of the often nonlinear & multi-generational struggle to take down dictatorship. Do read it.

Feels like a strangely apt day to be doing the final final proofs on this text, reflecting on Diana Kudaibergen’s powerful book on the often nonlinear, long, back-and-forth, multigenerational struggle to take down dictatorship. Soon out in Central Asian Survey. Do read the book.
I posted about Stalin’s deportations of over 20 ethnic groups in the Soviet Union. The replies were baffling. Some Russians called it fiction. Others said Volga Germans deserved to die because they started the war. 🤔Others claimed Stalin must have done it to protect people.
Join us for our next webinar! Glad to have been part of this forum and our ongoing transregional dialogues on decoloniality in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. We’re fortunate to have Madina Tlostanova and Yuliya Yurchuk reading our work—looking forward to hearing their thoughts!

A much needed book, looking forward to reading: “Decolonial discussions are gaining traction, challenging political elites' hegemony over national identity formation. Such changes harbour the potential to profoundly alter Russia's influence in the areas it once controlled”
One week left to apply for our Master in Nationalism Studies at @unicomplutense.
