We learned about #OrangeShirtDay & #TruthAndReconciliation. We read 📚by Phyllis Webstad, talked about how we can make people feel they matter, designed orange shirts, made buttons & bracelets & told stories about the land & being good ancestors. #tdsb#EveryChildMatters
Our students were so excited to see their names in Julia Donaldson’s “The Book of Names”. “That’s my name here!” We read the book & did a little #math by sorting our names. “Most kids have 6 letters in their names.” Y. R. #tdsb#earlyyears#kindergarten#literacy
Last week our school had our Terry Fox Walk, Run or Roll. #Kindergarten Ss shared, “Look my Dad is here to watch me!” Our Ss enjoyed learning about Terry Fox & how he persevered. They were excited to build a puzzle of Canada to see where he ran #tdsb#earlyyears#community
Enjoying all things #Autumn 🍂 today! We did a Fall Scavenger Hunt, collected leaves 🍁, used them to do leaf rubbings & used our extra leaves to practise our fine motor skills like cutting ✂️ #kindergarten#tdsb#FMELA@EarlyYearsTDSB
We read Todd Parr’s “The Thankful Book” & discussed what we are grateful for, big & small. Talking about the things we are thankful for made us feel happy. We created gratitude jars for our classroom to remind us of all we are thankful for #kindergarten#tdsb#wellbeing
Honouring all Residential school survivors & their families today…and every day. Much gratitude to Phyllis Webstad for sharing her story & starting Orange Shirt Day🫶🏽
We honoured residential school survivors on #OrangeShirtDay by reading books, talking about what fills our hearts & telling nature stories with loose parts. We painted rocks that we will bring home to remind us #EveryChildMatters@tdsb#kindergarten
We have been talking about what it means to be a friend. We read “Friendshape” & shared how we can be good friends & what we enjoy doing with our friends. We made friendship bracelets for our new friends. #belonging#wellbeing#tdsb@TDSB_MHWB#math#literacy#kindergarten
We observed Ss needed practise with positional language, so we used movement to strengthen Ss understanding of the words “on” “under” “beside” “behind” & used “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” to solidify learning. #kindergarten#FMELA#tdsb@EarlyYearsTDSB@TDSB_ESL@sparkingspeech
Some of our #literacy & #math activities this week included making the #alphabet using Duplo, making #patterns as we beaded “big, small, big, small,” counting & representing #numbers through our morning sign-in question & practising number formation with cars #kindergarten#tdsb
Instead of using pencils to draw a #selfportrait we used paint, rollers & Q-Tips to make a print! It was great seeing Ss #ProblemSolving as they rolled over their drawing when they weren’t quite satisfied so that they could try again. #belonging#art#FMELA#tdsb#perseverance
We put out an invitation to draw a #selfportrait earlier & noticed some Ss were hesitant to try. So, we #collaborated to make @hwtears’ Mat Man piece by piece. “People have arms.” We learned new vocabulary & how to make/draw a person. #kindergarten#ELL#tdsb#FMELA
The “easel” I made in the classroom was a huge success. The children enjoyed exploring & expressing their ideas through painting. It was beautiful listening to friends connect while they painted. #art#belonging#kindergarten#FMELA#tdsb#earlyyears
Our classroom is ready and Ms. K and I are looking forward to meeting our new #kindergarten Ss on Tuesday. Thank you to the incredible #FMELA team for being so welcoming & helpful. I’m so happy to be a part of the community. @tdsb@EarlyYearsTDSB#Back2School
It was the perfect morning for a #community walk. We made #nature bracelets & examined 🌱, 🐜 & 🌸. We even got flowers from an @AllenbyPS_TDSB community member. We made blooming flowers in the classroom & a card for the person who "made our day." #wellbeing#tdsb#kindergarten
