The Creative Sweden report in focus at the Minister of Culture's seminar today. The third minister involved in this work - shows the need for a more holistic approach to culture policy.
In November 2021, the Swedish Government initiated a new strategy for the cultural and creative industries. The Ministry of Culture then appointed a special Committee to lead the work with a long-term and sustainable strategy throughout the country in the coming 10-year period.
The long-term perspective is important for the strategy. The Committee is consequently encouraged to look beyond the immediate effects of the pandemic.
The official name of the Committee is Creative Sweden – a name that emphasises two key notions: 1) that the strategy should involve a wide set of organisations and people all over Sweden,
More than producing a national strategy, the Committee will analyse and identify developmental needs as well as suggest national goals and actions, and outline proposals to improve cooperation between relevant actors within the sector.
The Minister for Culture and Democracy, Ms Amanda Lind, pointed towards the importance of the Committee by stating that “the creative industries represent an enormous potential for cultural development”.
The Swedish Government has appointed @tobias_nielsen to be Head of Committee. Additionally, Klas Rabe has been appointed to lead the daily operational work.
Head of Committee @tobias_nielsen on the work of Creative Sweden. “I have been following the policy development for the cultural and creative industries for more than two decades.”
