BREAKING: 2023 has officially been declared as the hottest year on record, weeks before the year’s end. The broken record comes as a heatwave scorches large swathes of the country, threatening to push temperatures into the 40℃s in Sydney.

CFS is bracing for the “most significant fire risk” South Australia has faced in recent years.

Any fires will be "difficult to incredibly difficult" for firefighters to control, according to CFS Chief Brett Loughlin.

A large Boeing 737 air tanker will be arriving at RAF Base Edinburgh this evening to prepare for extreme conditions and to support operations if required.

CFS has warned the public, however, not to rely upon aviation assets to save them, as there will be instances where aircraft cannot safely fly due to forecasted winds.

The CFS continues to recommend having a bushfire survival plan in place.
