🚨 CBI catches ED officer red-handed taking bribe – but what about justice for honest citizens?

In a shocking revelation, CBI arrested ED Deputy Director Chintan Raghuvanshi (IRS) while accepting a ₹20 lakh bribe, as part of a ₹2 crore deal (original demand: ₹5 crore). This wasn’t some junior officer — this was someone in a top post entrusted with the job of fighting corruption.

Issue:
Definition and scope of 'cruelty' under Section 498A.

Ruling:
The Court held that “Cruelty” for the purpose of Section 498-A IPC is to be established in the context of Section 498-A IPC as it may be different from other statutory provisions. It should be determined by considering the conduct of the man, weighing the gravity or seriousness of his acts and to find out as to whether it is likely to drive the woman to commit suicide, etc.

Impact: Clarified the legal understanding of 'cruelty' to prevent its misuse.

One of our Activist, Priyash Bhargava has been illegally detained in PS Bharat Nagar of N-W Delhi. Looks like the party which was carrying out illegality that Priyash complained about, has filed a false case in collusion with some errant police officer to force him to take his complaint back which is a common tactic.
IO Suraj Bhan is threatening to arrest under 107/ 151 CrPC and possibly Priyash has been manhandled in the police station.
