Title: The Puppet Show

Plot: A chilling serial killer is igniting terror in the Lake District, using its ancient stone circles as macabre stages for his crimes. With no evidence left behind, the police are at a complete loss.

The case takes a dramatic turn when the name of disgraced detective Washington Poe is found carved into the charred remains of the third victim. Reluctantly reinstated from his suspension, Poe is thrust into an investigation he has no desire to join.

Crime Recommendations Review: I have had a Chris Carter-shaped hole in my life since completing his Robert Hunter series. Since then I have been looking for something to fill that void and stumbled across the Washington Poe series by M.W. Craven. This series came highly recommended and the first installment in there series certainly lived up to the hype 🤗

The gruesome nature of the murders immediately grabbed my attention and held it until the very end! I did feel as if the book lulls somewhat in the middle but I would encourage the reader to stick with it because the ending more than makes up for it 🔥I certainly didn't foresee those twists and turns 🤯

There are some brilliant and very relatable characters in this book. My favourites were Washington Poe himself, a brilliantly flawed genius of a detective, and his sidekick, Tilly Bradshaw, the socially awkward, naive criminal analyst. Together they form a brilliant team and bond that provides much-needed humour amidst all the chaos.

This book is a really solid start to the series and I cannot wait to check out the remainder. I have already begun the second installment, 'Black Summer', so keep an eye out for that upcoming review ☺️

If anyone is looking for their next true crime fix, look no further!!

This 3 part series follows the tragic murder of Laci Peterson who disappeared just before Christmas 2002. Her husband, Scott Peterson, becomes the main suspect in the investigation due to his odd behaviour, misleading testimony, and seemingly ever-changing alibi. The documentary features insights from Laci and Scott's close friends and family, which I found extremely interesting.

Obviously there are some aspects of the case that Netflix has chosen to leave out, however, having watched the documentary I believe that Scott is most certainly guilty of the crime with which he has been convicted. Although much of the evidence is circumstantial, it is quite damning all the same!

Just this year, Scott's case has been taken on by the LA Innocence Project, any developments on this will of course be very interesting.

Anyone who has seen the documentary, what are your thoughts? I would love to hear them!

With his career and possibly life on the line, Poe must unravel a complex mystery with the help of his unconventional partner, Tilly Bradshaw.

As the plot deepens, it becomes clear that Keaton is at the heart of a sinister game, and the truth about Elizabeth's disappearance is far more disturbing than anyone could have imagined.

Crime Recommendations Review: I really enjoyed the first installment in the series and I have to say that I think this book is even better than the first.

From the incredibly graphic, gruesome opening scene to the unexpected plot twist at the end, this book keeps the reader on the edge of their seat throughout. Simply put, this book will have you racing through pages to get to the finish line.

The characters of Tilly and Poe are once again at the forefront of the book. The unexpected chemistry and relationship that they have brings some much-needed humour to the book, even in the darkest of situations. They are ably supported by numerous other great characters, particularly Jared Keaton himself.

If anyone has come across this series or any works by this author and is indecisive, take my advice and jump right in!

Crime Recommendations Review: This was the first book I've read written by John Marrs and it must be said that I really enjoyed it! I found it somewhat of a slow burn initially, but the author also does enough to keep the reader engaged!

The book alternates between various timeframes, ranging from 25 years ago to the present day. These timeframes are linked together seamlessly ensuring a nice flow to the book.

For a finish, I found myself unable to put the book down, relentlessly flicking pages to discover the fate of the family in question.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would have no qualms recommending it to my followers! I can't wait to check out some more of John's work ☺️

We are back from a brief hiatus!! 🔙😊

I recently finished reading the first two books in Don Winslow's epic trilogy, "The Power of the Dog" and "The Cartel".

These books are no ordinary cartel thrillers! They are sprawling, brutal epics that immerse you deep inside the horrifying mess that is the US-Mexico drug trade. Expect violence, corruption, betrayal, revenge, and some unforgettable characters!

Winslow is a masterful storyteller who can paint a picture in your mind's eye like no author I have come across to date! I cannot wait to read the final installment in the trilogy before moving on to more of his work.

As I have previously mentioned, if you are a fan of Narcos then these books are most certainly for you 👍
