I was told by top Dr’s (Stanford, UCSF, Sutter) that a Gastrectomy would be disastrous for my severe refractory idiopathic Gastroparesis.

I found studies that proved otherwise, found a willing surgeon & went from not eating for 4 years to now eating half of my daily calories.

Recently I #AskThePatient about being believed as patients. It goes both ways: if a patient doesn’t believe me, it can be activating. And “where did YOU go to medical school” is NEVER the right answer.

@jenbrea If you need a subject for CFS/Dysautonomia connection lmk, 3 years after ME/CFS onset I developed Gastroparesis so bad that my stomach became completely paralyzed and I didn’t eat for 5 years.

I had a Gastrectomy against Specialist’s recommendation and can now eat small amounts.

@Samantha2015x @jenbrea I got Gastroparesis from my CFS. I lost 50lbs over 6 months and I’m now back to normal weight on jejunal tube feeds. Have you had a gastric emptying test?

Otherwise, my Stanford GI specialist told me IBS is the most common CFS induced GI ailment.

@jenbrea @DrEReinhold @Samantha2015x I got Gastroparesis from my CFS. I lost 50lbs over 6 months and now on tube feeds. A gastric emptying test is be used to diagnose it or rule it out at least. It’s hard to get Drs to do something about weight loss until your in bad shape though, hopefully they can figure it out🙏
