@BrocqChristine@Gaylussite I terest rates were 16% for a short period of time. No one paid that over 25year mortgage. Even so,house prices are many times higher now than then, so as a %of income, people buying a house now will be paying much more than people did when rates were higher.
@mightyreds88@BackseatsmanLFC The contract was between the player and the club, nothing to do with Arsenal. They can't take legal action on someone else's contract. Would be up to suarez to take action.
@EudaimoniaEsq@SillyWasTaken@Cathrinmachin Peak of summer it can get very hot in most houses. But our weather is highly variable and it's not predictably warm for long spells. So getting AC isn't very cost effective for most as it might only be used for a few weeks a year.
@EudaimoniaEsq@SillyWasTaken@Cathrinmachin Old homes don't retain heat well. New homes in the UK have to meet all sorts regs on insulation and there's also been a drive over the last couple decades to retrofit insulation (like cavity wall and loft insualtion) to older homes. So yeah, our houses retain heat in summer too
@docmartincohen@RussInCheshire It was all politics. There was a bit of backlash, he changed his stance. I'd like him (and every politician) to give their honest view and stick with it. But politics is shit. He's far from perfect.
@docmartincohen@RussInCheshire That's nothing to do with his record as a barrister. I disagree entirely with that stance, but he's now a politician, not a lawyer. He took a political position, not a legal one.
@docmartincohen@RussInCheshire He specialised in human rights law. He wrote the actual textbook on it that is used to teach law students. He was one of the top barristers in the country, for sure.
