Labor's hatred of fruit farmers opens a can of worms

There should be no reason Australian peaches and pears on local shelves are dearer than the imported alternative in the can next to them – but our brilliance has created the perfect recipe for food insecurity.

This week, SPC told growers to mulch nearly half their peach crop and almost two-thirds of their pears because Woollies want fruit for half as much from countries paying slave-labour rates, running on cheap power, with none of the environmental restrictions we burden small family farms with.

Australian-grown and canned SPC peaches cost $5.30 at Woolies yesterday, while the same size can of South African peaches wearing the Woolworths home label cost $2.80. What is it about that 10,000km journey across the Indian Ocean that is cheaper than picking them from a tree in the Goulburn Valley and canning them right here?

As pear growers rip out trees, the cheapest canned pears on the shelf are grown in Argentina, a country suffering a 57 per cent poverty rate, flown to Thailand, a country primarily run on cheap gas and coal, shipped to Australia, trucked to our markets and – after all this travel – is still vastly cheaper than canning our own fruit.

This is the perverse result of a federal Government taking water from irrigators, forcing manufacturers to use expensive part-time power plants (wind and solar), and smothering family farms with red and green tape.

Add to this a major supermarket being distracted as a cheerleader for the Voice instead of delivering affordable groceries, who blames mum at the checkout for prioritising keeping her kids fed over supporting Australian farms.

If the recipe they are cooking up is to destroy our food security, it seems that Labor has the method and measurements just right.

My thoughts on the eSafety Commission.
Is eSafety making people unsafe?

Roughly a week ago Australia witnessed the horror of the stabbing at Bondi, killing six people and hospitalizing a baby. Then not long after that Bishop Mar Mari was attacked by a radicalized jihadi terrorist. This has been infuriating and shocking to all of us. And we all want an action plan in order to move forward and mitigate the risks of horrible instances like these from ever occurring again.

However, the government has responded to this not by cutting migration from dangerous foreign countries. Not by giving the people more rights to self-defense. Not by exposing terrorist cells and deporting anyone linked to them.

Instead, it has opted to take down the evidence of the crime itself?

Any person with a sane mind would never jump to the conclusion that the way to keep people safe from terrorism is by hiding the fact that there has been instances of terrorism.

In-fact, anyone with a sane mind would say that understanding these attacks as best as one possibly could would be in the best interests of all Australians.

Australians are not children. We don’t need daddy government to hold our hand and shield us from seeing naughty things. We need them to detect, arrest, and deport jihadi terrorists, detect and arrest violent machete wielding gangs, and in the meantime, give the people ample rights to defend themselves against these horrible machete and stabbing attacks.

It is UNSAFE to stick your head in the sand when it comes to these attacks.

And eSafety is going to make Australia more unsafe by hiding knowledge of these incidents from the people.

For myself, the more I see footage of these attacks, the more I learn and think about how best to approach situations like these. Which spurs me to research laws and see what is within my legal rights when it comes to trying to help in a situation like this, defend in a situation like this, or how to properly support the authorities in a situation like this.

Without the knowledge of exactly what happens in these attacks I’m in the dark.

What laws should I research? How should I best legally approach these situations if I don’t even know what’s happening? or even if these situations are occurring at all?

That is not e-Safe, that’s unsafe.

eSafety’s approach and the governments approach to this is completely backwards.

So in the interests of public safety I will absolutely call for the abolishment of the eSafety commission.

We should never hide real world events from the Australian people. Journalism should never be censored. Even if they get it wrong. Because if they’re wrong, then they’ll get a reputation for being liars, like the mainstream media who named the wrong person which then tricked independent journalists to do the same. The people will sift through this nonsense in order to find the truth.

They can handle themselves, they’re not children.

eSafety has done the wrong thing here and the government needs to re-evaluate their approach. But I’m quite confident they’ll double down on their mistake as per usual.

Their hubris seems to be totally out of control recently.

Like Gerri Hoogland wrote yesterday;

"The hubris is off the charts. I hate to say it, but the arrogance of Australia’s current crop of “Pollies” may just give some of Ancient Rome’s politicians a run for their money."

The people are the most important aspect of the Australian nation. And the people’s intelligence and independence needs to be respected. This is how a free and fair democracy is supposed to function.
