"We've been really intentional on that particular stat — extra possessions is the name of the game."
"If you're not getting it, you're starting your transition d at a much higher pick-up point."
Talked w/ Cheryl Reeve about Natasha Howard & Minnesota's o-boards, + tagging up.
"Caring is cool. You are not going to be the best anything—including the best version of yourself—with an attitude of nonchalance. Try hard and give a damn." - The Way of Excellence. https://t.co/QMMhSCRaNL
After last nights slate of games the Lynx now have a 3.0 point lead in defensive rating and now have the best net rating and record in the WNBA.
This while only returning 4 players from last seasons top defense… which had a defensive rating of 97.5… 0.7 points worse than this season.
Not a defensive rating person? They are 2nd in steals, 1st in defensive rebounds, 5th in blocks, 5th in opponents points in the paint, 1st in defensive field goal percentage, 1st in defensive three point percentage.
They are doing all of this without Napheesa Collier who is a back to back all defensive first teamer…
This concludes my Cheryl Reeve for Coach of the Year post.
Mvp tonight is @tornadojally - he brought the good vibes and high fives for the Lynx coming out!
@LynxCoachReeve - get him on the staff as a Vibe ambassador like KG
The strongest thing about the Knicks is nothing basketball skill wise- it's their ability to get after each other, communicate urgently, and then move on positively.
One of the most overlooked "skills" in basketball.
Cheryl Reeve on the opponents field goal percentage being sub 40% being a metric she uses
“It’s been a factor for most teams I’ve been around but maybe not as celebrated as it is here because I do think it’s actually an incredible stat… to be 175-9 since 2010 what we’re trying to impart to them is “it’s pretty obvious what are path is to success” (laughing)”
