Ken was doing some stand counts in three passes of a plot that were all planted the same day, interesting to see how the tillage systems affect the amount of time it takes to get out of the ground.
In this week's #BIFR Ken gives a recap of some of the issues being called in from the field, planting updates, and a warning to map the gullies in fields that will get fixed this fall to avoid equipment damage this season in tall corn: https://t.co/lZTbbTW3hs
This week's #BIFR, Ken Ferrie breaks down:
β How to read CTC stoplight signals.
β Why uniform emergence is the key to top yields.
β The "5-7 day" planting strategy that allows growers to wait for greenlight conditions.

We filmed βTeaching The Planter To Danceβ a couple years ago but always a good review for getting your planter set right for tough conditions: https://t.co/a9UGLmnWwM
Red Light: Too wet (concern for compaction and seedbed environment) and/or too cold (soil temps below 50). Concerns of both seed chilling and losing ears on spike down plants.
2. Dip slightly in the 48-hour window but will rise following that. This is a concern for seed chilling.
In a yellow light either seed chilling or spike down plants are a concern but not both.
If you are trying to evaluate today what the frost did to the bean crop that was up, Ken Ferrie covers what to look for to start getting an estimate on what will make it:
Ken was in Lindsay Ontario giving a presentation for the Durham Soil and Crop Improvement Association and got the chance to talk to a couple of Canadian farmers about what 2025 looked like for them and what they are planning for the 2026 crop year. https://t.co/Wx840OKZRi
