If I were to hire today, this is how I would structure the interview process:

Round 1: in-person & no AI allowed; test domain expertise and knowledge on the fly

Round 2: a project that must be done with AI (impossible to complete without AI). Candidate assessed not just on the result but also the chat transcript with agents

The tokenmaxxing culture is absolutely out of hand.

You don't need an agent for everything.

In fact, I'm 99% sure you don't need an agent for 99% of the problems you need to solve.

Good engineering principles still apply. Simplicity still wins.

A regular, boring ol' script that works every time is 1000 times better than a fancy agent that works sometimes.

We need common sense back.

I don't understand how you can get good at building with AI without learning to code first.

If you've never built things by hand, you won't know:

•What "good" actually looks like
•When the AI is wrong or hallucinating
•What to ask for next

You're not directing the AI. You're just hoping it works.
