The new Masters of the Universe is if the Wonder Woman movie had a much nicer coat of paint on it and 10x more “erm, that just happened” jokes, right down to the same confused theme about cycles of violence. I at least expected, like, competency?

@AlMysteri Yeah, p much. The first one collects the whole Dark Phoenix saga plus short stories from anthologies that follow up on that era. The second one collects a lot of aftermath stuff with Rachel, Madelyne, X-Factor, Inferno, etc.

I mean this throughout all his work utilizing the character barring Man Without Fear. I don’t really care for his Elektra there, she feels like a different entity altogether

I think a fair critique around many of Miller’s women is that he shows a strangely patronizing sort of sympathy towards them. I’d say Elektra is the only one he’s really shown anything close to empathy for, she’s handled with a lot more grace and curiosity.

@AlMysteri I think I’d be a bit more harsh on reading it now because in retrospect I don’t think Brubaker tooootally escapes his usual tropes but at the time I was enamored. I think that counts for something lol (also hey, Phillips/Stewart art!)

@ComicChimp @planet51fandom Ye, and even then in the 60s, average kiddie lit was a lot more nuanced in how it was written (I think of White Fang, Treasure Island, 3 Musketeers, etc) so like, Spider-Man penned by Lee is nothing in comparison
