"There has to be a willingness to learn; to change; to share power." (Sandra Rennie in the @SCIE_socialcare#coproduction webinar)
Without that starting point, co-production is flawed at the outset, with key decisions often already made, little opportunity to make a difference.
With #coproduction, how do LAs and CCGs etc ensure that the meeting is not the outcome?
Coproduction has to be more than just regular meetings: it has to have an impact on services, learnings and outcomes, or it's just a box-ticking exercise, and a waste of time + opportunity.
“To coproduce effectively you need to draw on the experiences of and involve people who would never find themselves sitting around a table with professionals or parliamentarians, not just those who are comfortable doing so” (speaker in the @SCIE_socialcare coproduction webinar)
In a SEND context, this means that parents/Carers and children/young people with SEND should be involved in the planning and development of services and support.
We like to say: service users and their families at the start and the heart of services.
Is that your experience?
As it’s National Co-Production week, we’re going to share some information and resources about what coproduction is (or should be). @SCIE_socialcare has resources and events all week.
