You are what you do. Gentleman Farmer. Avid Agrarian. Trying to out do my long-term average self. My wife is charming and my children are funny.โฆ๏ธ ๐ฝ๐ซ๐พ๐
Hey #AgX, #harvest24 is upon us. Every fall I feel sick and weak at the end of the season. I did something like this for #plant24. Here is a workout I put together to help operators keep moving all season. Share it, print it out, etc. Stay healthy! #AgTwitter#corn#cultivore
@silvopasturist welded wire cattle fence with a 6โ above ground trough feeder made out of scrap 2x6โ I can sweep with a pitchfork to clean it in one swipe and there is zero waste. Also it allows for the littles to get in and not be pushed around by boss ewes
@theistinthought I have fallen into the role of โGrumpy Uncโ at church. As such, I discipline all the young kids at church w/o parents getting upset. Others have tried to do it and failed. I donโt know why it works for me, other than I am also very strict with my own 4 and everyone knows it.
@wrowclif I am allegedly a Working Foolโข๏ธ that prefers family time over work, so I am always concerned that I am not getting enough done when I am home; while being annoyed that I am missing family time when working on the farm.
@wrowclif Burying a parent will definitely make you grow up. I think that it is real hardship that causes boys to become men. Our society is geared to give them the exact opposite.
@Empty_America We started a family garden a half a dozen years ago. First time our family farm has had a garden on it since the 70โs. I love growing bulk calories for my family. Hand farming is a great break from tractor farming. It also tastes good too!
@normonics Itโs a fallacy of efficiency. If method A takes longer and more work, it must be worse than method B. However strength, resilience, and character all require time and energy. Gardening, homesteading, etc provides a bodily lesson for those things.
@Empty_America The problem with most is that they are not content with spending most their open time at home. A well run garden needs at least 20 minutes every day plus at least another solid hour 1-2x/wk for bigger jobs like bulk harvesting, processing, etc. Folks like their play time more
@longstoryfarms Yes, I sold 1000โs of small hay bales to covid homesteaders. It was about a 3 season cycle. I would get a call in summer 1 for first time buyer who just bought a place, summer 2 they are excited because of all the planting they did, by 3 they inform me that they are done.
@SeniorC08078515@thegarybrecka That is because they are too big for a chicken to swallow and digest. This is why their food needs to be soft or ground. Turkeys and ducks have larger throats/stomachs and will gobble them up.
@Hybridathlete I get most look at an air bike for HIIT; however I find it most satisfying for a 45-90 min ride at Z1. The fan keeps you cool while riding, making it even better.
@MaverickHybrids I know a couple who have tried it. The consensus seems to be that it works, if you are well set up for that system. The biggest draw back I have heard is lodging. There are not plants close enough to help keep them all from falling over.
@Alan_Couzens This is great!. Query: I had a severe ankle injury from when I was in the army 16 years ago. Almost 40 and arthritis is starting to kick in. Best course of action? Currently doing 1-1.5 hrs of zone 1-2 cardio 6 days a week Plus 10k steps/day.
@wrowclif I recently developed old man sciatica. Top of foot hurts when I wake up and when I sit for a while. Tendons are also stiff upon waking, though that is probably arthritis from army injury. Key is to just never sit for longer than 15 minutes.
@wrowclif I have been a pants only guy my entire life until this summer. Shorts are to be of the cargo variety with work boots unless, I am at the pool with the children.
