@Luigibot07@LucianoCohan@southevropa Los gringos usan mucho este argumento... y en el fondo la pelea es por el "diminutivo"... se argumenta demasiado por el uso de las palabras.
@Forrestening@duquerubro Because they have demonyms from and for their own countries... but they are Americans too.
Why is so difficult to understand? We have our countries, but also the continent as a definition.
Unitedstatisians no, because they chose something else that was being used by others.
@Forrestening@duquerubro Ajá. Of America, not America. You pointed that very well.
Unitedstatisian and Usoian are free to dibs. Go ahead, you can chose.
@YakoboCuria@duquerubro Before the Napoleonic War (1803). Peruvian jesuite Juan P. Viscardo to the Spanish Americans, they needed to fight for the independece.
Your argument failed. For this to exists, the ideal of Americans existed in the Spanish Empire way before.
Another historical proof.
@YakoboCuria@Memetic_Hazard_@southevropa Septetrional Spanish America. 1772. Couple of years before the stablishment of the US. Take is as a proof that Spain official acknowledge Mexico and Guatemala (thus, Latin America) as America. It´s documented. You haven add any documentation.
I´ll move on to the next one.
@YakoboCuria@Memetic_Hazard_@southevropa That doesn't nullify the Waldseemüller map existence. It's a German guy that created the map and used that name, from an Italian.
America was and has been the name of the continent since that moment... The names of the countries / territories changed, the continent remained.
@Forrestening@duquerubro Mexica Empire. That's why. It's a self name that no one else disputed or used.
America was used by other 30+ countries as their continent.
Its easy to understand. Unitedstatisians has no demonym actually.
@YakoboCuria@duquerubro This man... Omg. Pal...
For anyone reading this guy, Waldseemüller map from 1507 placed the name America over South America. First time the word was used in a map. German-Latin term documented there. What's he's writing is his vision.
@YakoboCuria@Memetic_Hazard_@southevropa My unitedstatisian friend... It's there... In the fucking Waldseemüller map. 1507... Centuries before the US establishment.
Don't be blind. It's history and it's documented.
America is the fucking continent.
@OsMelhoresPes@JSilverhand_ Never? I'm American. I already was called like that. It's taugh at schools, universities. It's in historical data, documents, INS embedded in out identity.
I think you don't understand that... It's and had been already happening for the last 500+ years.
We don't need permission
@YakoboCuria@Memetic_Hazard_@southevropa It's not about technology or influence or anything similar to that. You recurring to those arguments juts showed that you cannot compete in the fields that reigns over this matter: history, cartography, geography, language.
You can ride yourself a tomahawk. It's fine with me.
@YakoboCuria@JSilverhand_ Ah... I get it now. No. You are wrong. It's true Spanish Empire used that term, but the Waldseemüller map totally destroys your argument.
Google it. It's a German-Latin term, used for the first time in 1507 to describe South America.
You u are wrong.
@curolino5303@southevropa I had that conversation with people from Slovakia. They understood that really well. Even with people from the US, friends, and they understood really well.
Is not something to worry, or a big deal.
@curolino5303@southevropa That doesn´t make less important the fact that I´m also american. In fact, that just shows that Unitedstatisians took two levels of that categorization with their short demonym. I think you understand that very well +
¿Para qué si Villalta, sin ser mezquino, ha demostrado ser un diputado que aporta balance y productividad a la Asamblea?
¿Para qué darle chance a otros si él tiene buena experiencia en ello?
@curolino5303@southevropa I understand what you mean, but is not the same. If I need to express to a US Citizen that I come from America, I'll say exactly that, and that will create a conflict with their cosmovision of the universe.
If I cannot say: I'm American (from the continent) the problem is there.
