Torus mainnet just went live!
@torus_network completed their non-dilutional fork last week and looks to be on track to be the next bluechip Swarm AI agent project.
This might be one of my highest conviction bets this cycle.

Before we dive into Torus itself, it's important to understand how this project came to life as it's one of the main drivers of why $TORUS is such an interesting opportunity.
Torus is a @communeaidotorg fork, a project building with the same vision as Bittensor by physicist and AI engineer Sal Vivona, who was working at Bittensor before founding Commune.
The main differentiators for Commune at launch compared to Bittensor:
🔹 Local stake model instead of global
🔹 A linear, no consensus 'general' subnet
🔹 Namespace
🔹 Subnet-level governance
🔹 Increased flexibility
🔹 Fully open-source
@renlabsdev liked how Commune operated, initially starting as miners and growing to participate and help grow its environment over the past 15 months.
Over this period RenLabs discovered their vision wasn't aligned with Sal's and decided to complete a non-dilutional fork last week and start their own journey with Torus.
This gives us a great opportunity as RenLabs was the team that completed the major improvements on Commune over the past 15 months.
So what is Torus Network?
TLDR: Torus Network is a self-assembling and evolving agentic peer-to-peer organism layer 1 founded by RenLabs. They have an incredibly impressive track record when it comes to their contributions to AI and blockchain in general. They have worked extensively with both Bittensor and Commune over the past years.
Think of it as an organic cyborg. At its base, it has vital organs, memory, and an immune system; it can integrate everything, even new organs if needed to improve itself constantly. This is what Torus aims to achieve; each organ is a swarm of AI agents/modules all working together to improve and evolve.
At the core of all these agents and modules is "Stake". This is the root agent on Torus Network and controls token emissions. Everything has to flow through this agent and is inseparable from the network. Think of Stake like the genome of Torus, its library off-chain accessible to its stakeholders influencing how Stake expresses itself through stake-based control on-chain.
This creates continuous alignment towards the stake root, causing agents to automatically build a hierarchy through selective pressure and incentives from Stake.
I really like this approach. Agents lower on the hierarchy, wanting to earn a piece of the pie, will be forced to align their selection to serve the objective of the level above; this will happen at each level until we reach Stake.
Stake is permissionless, while everything else is permissioned by Stake. This means all agents from a certain "organ" will work together for one singular goal set by Stake, working together as a "swarm" to maximize their results as only these results are rewarded by Stake.
Stake is driven by weight from $TORUS stakers. Holders can decide what they wish to incentivize, and Stake will pay out rewards based on the total weight. Stakers will earn dividends from the results of their weight stake, much like how $dTAO will function in the future.
Torus functions as a DAO, meaning even Stake could be replaced if the community decides a better allocator is able to provide more optimized results for Torus Network.
Let's quickly discuss $TORUS tokenomics.
$TORUS was launched with no pre-mine and no VCs, a nice note is that this goes for Commune as well, meaning anyone that bridges had to buy their tokens on the open market just like anyone else.
Currently, tokens can only be bought OTC with base liquidity to be added in the next few days. $TORUS FDV is only ~2.2X of the circulating supply which is incredibly bullish, especially considering how the reaming tokens will be emitted will be fully controlled by current $TORUS holders. All tokens will be emitted over the next five years.
While all of this is super impressive, I haven't touched on the main reason why I am so bullish on Torus, which is the team behind the project. RenLabs has an insane track record. Fourteen developers who basically improved Commune to where it is today is already impressive, but they are also pioneers of $dTAO fundamentals, providing an 18-page paper explaining how they would tackle current $TAO tokenomics shortcomings.
I can't understate how impressive this is, as Bittensor is a well-established project with an incredible team, and RenLabs comes along and provides a solution for what might be Bittensor's biggest economic shortcoming.
Knowing the capabilities of this team combined with their innovative approach, Torus is set to be a beast for AI infrastructure and AI swarm progression.
I can see Torus becoming a billion-dollar project if they are able to achieve their goal, and with such a strong team backing Torus, I'm confident they stand a good chance of achieving their goal.
You don't often get such a good R:R bet as Torus.

First of all, thank you Shai for finding some time in your heavy schedule with your Crescendo roadmap and the 10 BPS testing, to review a 15M$ mcap project like us. We really appreciate that!
Before answering you, the "topoheight" terms was just a way to have a simple "word", fast to pronounce and write, to refer to the "DAG Height" without having to write all that time "topological height"; but you can share your ideas for a better name.
I just want to correct you about the stable height preventing deep reorganization. Stable height is used to prevent mining too old blocks to force the chain advancing and as you said, preventing cheap reorg. Side blocks are not profitable to mine because they have only maximum 30% of expected block reward (which is slashed by half at each next side block at same height), thus preventing any attacker to gain profits by focusing side blocks that may have lower difficulty than latests/main blocks.
So to advance at the same rate the two chains, both chains don't need to have same ~hashrate. Because:
Difficulty is calculated on each block and can do +50% like -50% at each adjustment.
So if he has less hashrate, its block difficulty would be lower and lower, so despite having the same block rate, one chain would be weaker than the other (by comparing the block cumulative difficulty).
Also, what happen at the P2P level, what your node check to determine if he should try to sync another peer chain or not?
First,
- cumulative difficulty of the peer (can be faked)
- that he have at least one block height more than us OR one block topoheight more than us (can be faked also)
(what I mean by faked is a peer could just send random data during a ping packet, faking its state, but it doesn't matter because it get still verified below, and if an error occured to sync with such peer, he will be skipped in the next selection and so on).
If a peer is found with such valid characteristics, we send him a hashes list of our top chain to find a common point with peer local chain.
(Hashes list is like top block hash, top block hash - 1 etc determined by the topological order generated)
Peer will send us its hashes list too after that he found where we deviated based on our hashes list. (common point)
This hashes list starts based with the common point (block hash).
To prevent trusting fake data send by the peer during the random peer selection for chain sync:
- We request each block of its hashes list, push them in the ChainValidator to validate that the block header is good and we send.
- Once all its hashes list is validated through the chain validator, we verify that the estimated block cumulative difficulty of peer chain is bigger than our current chain by taking the cumulative difficulty of the top block (the block with the highest topoheight).
If he has a bigger chain cumulative difficulty after the validity checked, then we allow to rewind the chain until the common point (which can be below the stable height!) we have with the peer.
We proceed its chain (using a commit point now in case something went wrong so we can easily discard the data overwritten and get back our own chain).
Stable height is only here to prevent mining too old blocks / accepting side blocks being too old. A node can still rewind behind the stable height if a bigger chain (by cumulative difficulty) was made.
So that may create a lot of processing/reorg to find a common consensus for the network, but the network split wouldn't stay in this state forever. And, the deeper the reorg would be, the more it would cost for an attacker.
