@jasonintrator Being at a dinner with (former?)Nazis cause most of the country had connections to the Nazi state isn’t the same as allowing/platforming Nazi views. Nazism is attached to views/actions not to people. If they were ideologically silent then the cancellation/retribution had worked.

@attentive Just had that discussion yesterday with an engineer running catastrophe scenarios for nuclear reactors. Their worst case scenario is multi-day 43degrees. It was 41degrees in Belgium 2 days ago, it’s not quite the scenario of course but it’s getting uncomfortably palpable.

@carl_b_sachs « At most it addresses a symptom », fair but it is the symptom ‘rage + guns’ that produces mass shootings. One is ‘easy’ to address & is worthwhile addressing while we see how to address the other. So no not a red herring, it has real outcomes regardless of addressing the source.

@attentive The whole quantity, quality debate i guess. In effect, a five degree difference is qualitatively significant in the way life is lived, but yes, it does feel quite superficial in some ways.

@attentive There’s a strangeness about sameness & difference. I often can’t tell if something is trivially or fundamentally different between people or cities or languages. In many ways it seems like a matter of emphasis. Is Brisbane fundamentally diff now with its green MPs?
