Also, some clarifications & corrections:

- The valley had hundreds of other cities, towns and villages, it was more then just Tenochtitlan and Tlacopan. To be specific, there were about 50 other major cities, and a few hundred other towns and villages, with a common valley-wide population of 1 to 1.5 million people (though some go higher or lower). I'll post some images showing this in a follow up reply

- While 200,000 denizens for Tenochtitlan-Tlatelolco (Tlatelolco was technically a separate city but the two fused into each other, so they were effectively one urban center at the time of Spanish contact, the latter becoming the former's 5th city quadrant more or less) is the most common modern population estimate, 300,000 is maybe a bit high, tho some researchers have gone that high. Conversely, some propose lower figures, such as 100,000 or even ~50,000. Mind you, 50,000 would still make it slightly larger then the largest cities in Castillian Spain at the time.

- I have read inconsistent and contradictory things about the agricultural yield and efficiency of chinampas. Some papers seem to describe them as far more productive then normal farms, yielding 7 harvests a year, while others assert they were probably only used to produce specialty homegrown crops and herbs for local families and that staple crops and the bulk of foodstuffs were grown elsewhere. I'm not really clear on what to believe here yet

- The siege of Tenochtitlan was actually mostly done by armies from other local city-states and kingdoms, Conquistadors made up less then 1% of the troops involved, most likely. Additionally, local kings and officials were calling the shots as much as Cortes in some cases, who were using him as much as he was using them. See: https://t.co/5pk6yG58E9 for details
